Motherhood: The Ultimate Humbling Experience

I have a confession:

I used to judge your kids. I used to judge you. I used to say things like “my kids will never do that.”

That was until I actually had kids. And boy, did the Lord knock me down a few pegs with my spicy toddler.

I still have my opinions about parenting styles, but just because I parent this way and you parent that way doesn’t mean that my two-year-old doesn’t ever start crying for no reason. Or have meltdowns in the parking lot. Or throw toys at his brother. Or, or, or.

The list goes on.

We’re all handling mini-explosive devices with undeveloped brains and very limited emotional processing capabilities, and no parenting approach is immune to it.

So, this is just my little note to you to say that I understand exactly what it feels like when your kid doesn’t behave the way you want them to. I know what it feels like to be “that mom” who’s always redirecting “that kid” at the playdate.

You are not alone, and I want you to know that I like your strong-willed sassafrass ‘cause I have one, too. So, pour yourself another cup of coffee and head to that playdate, mommy group, or event with confidence. Arm yourself with your best “don’t you even think about it” glare and surround yourself with other mommas who get it and want to help!

God has given you these children for a reason — you’re the best woman for the job!

Stuck in an egg rut? We got you.

Our kids eat eggs pretty much every morning, so it’s very easy to get stuck in a rut. Every now and then, I whip out this SUPER SIMPLE recipe — it’s a fancy little upgrade with only one (maybe two) additional ingredients.

Here’s how easy this little kid crepe is:

Crack an egg into a bowl, add a splash of milk and vanilla and/or almond. You can toss a little flour in there, too, if you want it to be more of a traditional crepe.

And that’s it.

Mix all of that together and dump it into a hot pan, flipping it after a little while (Idk how hot your stove gets).

Top it with yogurt, cream cheese, a little fruit — whatever you want!

E voila! Egg rut crisis solved!

A prayer for your week

Quiet Time\ Journaling

There are many prayers and blessings in the Bible, and we are told to pray them and exhort others with them! One of my favorites is from Ephesians 3. Here it is:

“For this reason, I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.  I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.”
