MOTHERHOOD

April is Cesaerean Awareness Month

From the Valley Moms Team

April is National Cesarean Awareness Month, and in honor of it, I’d like to (briefly) share my c-section story. I had a c-section with my first after a loooooooong labor. I originally intended to have my son at home with a midwife, but hours and hours of laboring and pushing just simply weren’t fruitful, and when I finally arrived at my breaking point, I was disappointed and scared.

By the grace of God, everyone we encountered, from the ER nurses to the L&D nurses, was absolutely fantastic. There was no judgment, only efficient, compassionate care.

They even let me labor more in the hospital, and we almost started to make some progress, but by midnight of my third day of labor, I was spent.

The OB on call walked us through the c-section process, and the nurses hurried to get my husband and me prepped for surgery.

What felt like moments later, our sweet little baby boy was born and finally in our arms.

Needless to say, my birth story DID NOT go how I wanted or planned — but isn’t that life? We rarely get exactly what we want, even when we plan and prepare for the ideal outcome. God taught us a lesson that day: Ultimately, we are not in control.

We’re so grateful that God had His hand in our birth story from beginning to end, for our midwives, for the hospital staff who cared for us, and, most importantly, for the happy, healthy baby we took home with us.

Life doesn’t always go as planned, but it always goes as God planned.

MOM THOUGHT OF THE DAY

Use your reminders wisely

Until recently, I never used my phone's built-in reminders app, but I recently discovered their usefulness in my marriage (you read that correctly).

Every day at 1 p.m., I receive a phone reminder to pray for my husband. This gets me to stop thinking nice thoughts about him and offer him the best kind of love and support.

I’ll be honest: Most days, it’s a very quick “Thank you, Lord, for my amazing husband.” And there’s NOTHING WRONG with that prayer. But there are also days when I know he’s struggling with something and/or I can focus for more than one second, and I really pray for him.

Either way, I’m happy to be in the habit of praying for my husband. The power of prayer is undeniable!

ONE LAST THING

This is your friendly reminder to text back all those people you’ve left on read. It’s no big deal — we all get distracted. But today is the day you resume your regular correspondence.
